<p>Offline folders have been quite useful if your workstation at work goes home with you pretty much every day. Offline files are copies of network files that are stored on your computer so that you can work with them when you&#8217;re not connected to the network.</p>
<p>Syncing your folders that you work with offline gives you the ability to take them along with you and annoy those at home by being able to work on them and have it synced to the server / network drive the moment you are connected back to the network.</p>
<p>Of course there are other means of doing the same these days with DirectAccess , old skool VPN and stuff.</p>
<p>But there are some folders that I use as Offline folders that I would rather have offline and sitting somewhere on my C drive. Yes one of the catches is that your offline folder cache sits on your C drive so make sure you got enough space.</p>
<p>When a folder or network drive is being used offline it would have the following Icon attached to it.<br />
<a href="http://wellytonian.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/offlinesymbol.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-492" title="offlinesymbol" src="http://wellytonian.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/offlinesymbol.jpg" alt="" width="111" height="82" /></a></p>
<p>To enable Offline folder on Windows 7:</p>
<ol>
<li>
<div>Open Control Panel and type inside the search option found on the top right hand corner &#8221; Sync Centre&#8221;</div>
<p><a href="http://wellytonian.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/off1.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-487" title="off1" src="http://wellytonian.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/off1-300x187.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="187" /></a></li>
<li>
<div>Click on Manage Offline File</div>
<p><a href="http://wellytonian.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/off2.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-488" title="off2" src="http://wellytonian.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/off2-300x187.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="187" /></a></li>
<li>
<div>Click on Enable Offline Folders, click apply and Ok</div>
<p><a href="http://wellytonian.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/off3.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-489" title="off3" src="http://wellytonian.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/off3-300x262.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="262" /></a></li>
<li>Restart the system</li>
<li>
<div>To make a folder available offline right click on the folder / network drive (make sure you have enough space on your C drive <span style="font-family: Wingdings;">J</span> )</div>
<p><a href="http://wellytonian.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/off4.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-490" title="off4" src="http://wellytonian.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/off4-300x243.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="243" /></a></li>
</ol>
<p>Have a look around Sync Centre and it may also pay to encrypt your files</p>
<p><a href="http://wellytonian.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/off5.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-491" title="off5" src="http://wellytonian.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/off5-265x300.jpg" alt="" width="265" height="300" /></a></p>
<p>Cheers</p>
