Quick post on Boot Diagnostics feature which was released in September. The feature is available for all regions and supported for Azure Virtual Machine V2. This feature is particularly useful to diagnose when a Virtual Machine could be in a non-bootable state and help towards recovery of the Virtual Machine.

Enabling Boot Diagnostics

  • Browse to the new portal for Azure https://portal.azure.com
  • Under the settings tab for the VM, click on Boot Diagnostics

  • Click to enable the feature will display additional settings that need to be configured such as the Storage Account as well as enabling Boot Diagnostics

  • Refresh the page and browsing back to the Boot Diagnostics page should display the following

  • An equally interesting feature is “Check Health” to display the state or issues faced by the VM. A healthy server would display the following

Small but really effective new features of the new portal.
